Development Review Board - Our Meetings And Decisions

The Vermont Statutes classifies the DRB as a “quasi judicial” board which means that our hearings and decisions are more formal than other Town Boards and Commissions. While our proceedings are a bit more formal, we strive to make all participants comfortable while hearing all points of view.

The DRB bases its decisions on the Town’s Zoning Bylaw and testimony received at the Public Hearing required for each case. The Public Hearing is noticed as provided in state law with the Town and the applicant sharing responsibilities. These notice provisions, and responsibilities, are explained in the Notice and Posting Requirements section of this web page.

Testimony at our hearings is under oath and DRB members are careful not to receive testimony outside the hearing. A member that has a personal stake in an application or a conflict of interest must excuse him or herself from the hearing and not participate in the decision.

Application decisions are issued in writing and include findings of fact and conclusions of law. Our decisions on applications are made following the public hearing and deliberative sessions, which are not part of the public meeting. The written decision is issued within 45 days of the close of the public hearing and is mailed to all participants (and is also posted on this web site).
